Dr. Andrea Peda Receives 2019 HSVMA Achievement Award

The UF online graduate program in Shelter Medicine program is proud to have faculty that innovate and lead in the field. For her achievements in shelter animal care and teaching, Dr. Andrea Peda, DVM, MS, was one of five veterinarians recognized by the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association for 2019. The HSVMA promotes the advancement of animal welfare through leadership, advocacy, education,and service.

Dr. Peda founded a shelter animal wellness program at Ross University in St. Kitts, where she is currently a faculty member and directs the Feral Cat Project. She is a faculty advisor for the People for Animal Welfare, Volunteers in Defense of Animals, and Saving Animals From Emergency. Additionally, she aided the development of Basseterre Animal Rescue Centre, the first animal shelter on the island.

She has a true passion for teaching shelter medicine, promoting animal welfare and wellness to the community, and empowering students and community members to help make a difference. She also connects with students from shared experience, as she received her Master of Science in Shelter Medicine the University of Florida. Currently, Dr. Peda co-teaches  VME6811: Shelter Animal Physical Health.
