Dr. Lisa Shriver received her DVM degree in 2009 from The Ohio State University. She serves as a consulting veterinarian for HSMVA- Rural Area Veterinary Services and as part of the Animal Rescue Team for Humane Society of the United States. In addition, Dr. Shriver is a Courtesy Lecturer for the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences for the University of Florida. In 2013, Dr. Shriver was among the first recipients of the Graduate Certificate in Shelter Medicine. In the same year, Dr. Shriver obtained the Veterinary Forensics Sciences Graduate Certificate.
Dr. Shriver first became interested in shelter medicine over 10 years ago while working at the Louisiana SPCA. She saw the normally helpless and unwanted shelter animals receive a new chance at life, in large part due to the efforts of the medical team. Her work there inspired her to attend veterinary school, with the understanding that she would always in some way be involved with the developing field of shelter medicine. She views this multidisciplinary field as fascinating, challenging and as offering unparalleled rewards. And although shelter medicine can sometimes be incredibly complex, at the same time, she believes small changes can often make enormous differences in the health and welfare of the shelter animals.
