The Online Graduate Program in Shelter Medicine has recently been approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) to provide continuing education (CE) hours that can be used for license renewal by veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) approved 18 CE hours for those who complete the Euthanasia by Injection CE course and 10 CE hours for those who complete the Grand Rounds CE course.
The Euthanasia by Injection (EBI) continuing education course is a self-paced online course that prepares students seeking licensure as a Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET). The course content is divided into two parts for a total of 18 CE hours for $400. The course is built upon the Guidelines for Euthanasia of Animals as published by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV). The course is also recognized by the Humane Society of the United States as being in concordance with their long-standing Euthanasia by Injection (EBI) in-person training for animal shelter staff members. This course is equivalent to Florida’s state-mandated training required to become a Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET). Learn more about the EBI course and review the course syllabus here.
Shelter Medicine Grand Rounds is a course offered each semester that provides 10 CE for $100. In this course, students will keep up to date with published literature and review best practices in Shelter Medicine by participating in virtual presentations given weekly throughout each semester by national and international leaders in the field. Presentation participation can be live or viewed through recordings. Students must attend and review at least 10 presentations each semester to receive a Certificate of Completion and 10 CE hours (1.0 CEU).
